What brings me out of hibernation and obscurity? The powering down of Google Reader.

Almost everyday for the last 3 or 4 years I log into Reader to keep up with all of the blogs I follow. Some of yours are my favorites. Alternatives? I never cared for Bloglovin’, as many of my frequently read blogs are not on it. Pulse is fantastic, but limits the amount of blogs you can subscribe to.

Now, if Google is shutting down Reader due to low usership; what is the point of Google+? Who really uses it?

I shut down my Google+ account today. And when Google asks me why, I respond with “I am upset that Reader will be no longer. Screw you.”

Looking for a daily alternative.

“Hey, so the other week at the art show. You know when I asked you where he went?”
“Uh huh,” I take a sip of my Jack and ginger ale. Damn, a place like this has real ginger ale. Not that bar shit. My thighs stick to the vinyl chair, should’ve worn jeans. Do I have Purell in my purse?

“You told me he was probably taking a dump.”
“Yeah, he probably was.”
“Well, an hour later I was looking for you and he told me you were probably pooping.”

I take a sip. “What the fuck?! Who says that?”
“Clearly you are hanging out way too much.”

I went home to find him in bed with his Kindle, feeling strangely closer to him. Jack and ginger ale still on my breath.

The Elements of Goodwill: Water

And just like that, it’s over. Thank you to all who come to the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on Thursday night, it was a whirlwind. Kyle and I styled a segment of The Elements of Goodwill fashion show on Thursday night, the fashion show was based on the elements of earth, wind, water, and fire. Fittingly for me, we were water. Over a period of a few months, we pulled every piece of clothing we could from Goodwill.

The pictures speak for themselves. A few of our looks.

Skirt turned dress. Jean Paul Gautier.

Neoprene one-piece, random kimono and belt.

The top half of our Gautier find. Rebecca is stunning. STUNNING.

BCBG leather blazer and a full beaded gown that was honestly only $6.99.

Our finale look, still pictures don’t do this justice. You need to see Justine work (WEEEERK!) it. That is a full hooded faux fur cape. Amaze.

Reminiscing

“Do you remember surfing? The second time. That day?” he asks.
“Yeah, Pokai Bay.” I vividly remember everything from that day. I could even remember how high I felt when he called. How comfortable I felt sitting in the cab of that truck on that long ass drive. We were so young.
“Yup,” he takes a sip of his beer. His elbow almost gets into the pizza. Why are we always surrounded by beer? “Do you remember eating a bag of chips?”

I guess the memory ain’t so vivid.

“No, I don’t,” clutching my beer with both hands. “I guess that sounds like me.”

“You just pulled out the bag and started munching.”

All of a sudden, my beer was empty.

“You got crumbs all over my truck!”

I guess that explains a lot.

What would life be if I couldn’t make myself look SO MUCH COOLER by turning every single thing I do, see, and eat into a photo filtered masterpiece?!

1. Ombre printed jeans + strappy heels that hurt at Hawaii Theatre.
2. My baby girl, Roxie. She lives with my mom. Damn not pet friendly apartment. (It’s ok, my mom needs her.)
3. Sunday dinner.
4. Free helmet dive at the Waikiki Ocean Club. Thank you Yelp Hawaii!
5. Doing what I do best. At the Koganji Bon Dance.

While Cooking Dinner

“How can they call this garlic broccoli without any garl…” he scrolls on his iPhone. “Never mind, it does.” I start wondering where I put my recipe box.

He fumbles a lot in the kitchen, but I don’t mind. It’s quite sweet to see him reading recipes, asking me the differences between chopped, diced, and minced.

“Do we have crushed red pepper?” he asks.

“Nope.”

“Ok, maybe I’ll just add some Kanye pepper. Wait! Cayne. No, Kanyenne. Cayenne pepper!”

At a Bar on a Naval Base

“So I signed up for match.com…” he says. His voice drifts almost like a question.
“What?” He doesn’t need the internet. He doesn’t even do Facebook. I looked once.
“Halfway though. It’s not active. I just can’t bring myself to post pictures.”

I don’t know if I said anything, but he just continues.

“I can look at other people’s profiles though. I saw this lady’s one and I was reading her ‘About Me’ and at the bottom it had a disclaimer. ‘If you wear or like flannel, listen to Death Cab for Cutie, or drink Chimay don’t even think about it.’ “

“Oooh, specific! Did she say the red, white, or blue?”

“No, but what’s wrong with flannel?”

Goodwill Goes GLAM x Heels Eggs & Rice

If you know me in person, I’m a jerk. I am a selfish, me-me-me-me-me kind of girl. But every now and then, my good friend Amanda knows how to weasel me into doing something nice. So when she decided to spearhead Goodwill Industries of Hawaii’s major project; Goodwill Goes GLAM, and asked me to be a part of the Glam Squad and a co-stylist in their big fashion event in August I couldn’t say no.

Yesterday we went into the Hawaii News Now studio to talk more about Goodwill Goes GLAM and about celebrity inspired summer finds at Goodwill (hand picked by me!) that will be available at the Glam Sale. Watch the clip below.

That. My friends, is what I sound like (manly!). That. Is also a lesson to never wear a white gauzy shirt on TV (damn.).

Really, this should be such a fun event. We’ve been pulling a ton of “glam worthy” things from all of the Goodwill locations and cannot wait to debut them at the Glam Sale. We’re talking some big name finds, people. And if you’re a Hawaii resident, or will just so happen to be in Honolulu August 23-26th come check us out!

Up in the Air

For the past year or so, I’ve been taking aerial classes.
We had a student showcase on Memorial Day. I’ve been a dancer almost my whole life, and the performance jitters are what I miss most. So being able to perform a new-to-me artform was super exciting, I literally got high on it.
